Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Soak the lentils in water for 2-3 hours and drain.
  • STEP 2.Grind the lentils to a coarse paste using a blender or food processor.
  • STEP 3.Mix the ground lentils with grated coconut and salt.
  • STEP 4.Fill a puttu maker with alternating layers of lentil mixture and grated coconut.
  • STEP 5.Steam the puttu for about 10-15 minutes or until cooked.
  • STEP 6.Remove the puttu from the puttu maker and serve hot with coconut chutney or any spicy curry.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to soak the lentils for a few hours to soften them before grinding.
  • You can adjust the consistency of the lentil mixture by adding water as needed.
  • If you don't have a puttu maker, you can use a steamer or idli maker to steam the puttu.
