Parippu Curry Recipe

A full of flavours dal made in Kerala style Parippu curry is a comforting meal when served with rice. accompany a side veggie thoran, a few pickle and papaddums by the side. Dal and rice is an evergreen comforting food for us. One of the dishes that is made during onam sadya is parippu curry. Basically its moong dal made with coconut and other spices.

Ingredients for Parippu Curry Recipe

  • 1 glass Toor Dal
  • As required Small sized diced onion
  • As required Small diced tomato
  • 3 slitted green chiles
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 red chili powder
  • As required Salt
  • 2 glass Water
  • 2 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 red chilies

Directions: Parippu Curry Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the dal for 30 mins

step 2

  • STEP 2.Dice the tomato and onion

step 3

  • STEP 3.Add 1 glass of toor dal, diced onion, diced tomato, slitted green chilies and curry leaves, in the pressure cooker

step 4

  • STEP 4.Add 2 glass of water and let it heat,

step 5

  • STEP 5.Do not cover the pressure cooker so that the dal can be inspected from getting over cooked, do not let the dal get too soft .

step 6

  • STEP 6.In another frying pan add 2 tbsp coconut oil and heat it

step 7

  • STEP 7.Add ½ tsp mustard seeds and red chilies

step 8

  • STEP 8.Add curry leaves let them pop , garlic can be added for extra flavours (optional)

step 9

  • STEP 9.Add the cooked dal from pressure cooker in the frying pan

step 10

  • STEP 10.Serve with achaar and rice
