Palak Gosht or meat cooked in spinach gravy is excellent comfort food served with rotis parathas or nan with a dollop of butter. It’s a delicious home-style dish made popular by restaurants all across, Palak Gosht is a simple dish to cook and it looks extremely appetizing.

Ingredients for Palak Gosht Recipe

  • As required Ingredients for palak
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 kilogram Palak leaves chopped
  • 1/2 cup Coriander leaves chopped
  • 1/2 cup Methi leaves
  • 1/2 cup Mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • As required Ingredients for gosht
  • 1/2 cup Oil
  • 2 No.s Onions medium, sliced
  • 2 No.s Cinnamon sticks
  • 4 No.s Cloves
  • 2 No.s Cardamom
  • 1 No.s Bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 inch Beefboneless cut into cubes 0.5 kg
  • 2 cup Water for pressure cooking
  • 2 tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1.50 tablespoon Qorma masala
  • 3 No.s Tomatoes medium, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon Black peppercorns crushed
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • 3-4 Green chillies slit
  • 1/4 cup Cream
  • As required Chopped coriander and sliced chillies for garnish

Directions: Palak Gosht Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.1 in a pan add 1 cup water and bring it to a boil. Add 1 kg chopped palak leaves, ½ cup chopped coriander leaves, ½ cup methi (fenugreek) leaves, ½ cup mint (pudina) leaves. Mix together and cover and cook on low heat for 4 to 5 minutes. The leave will have wilted and become soft.

  • STEP 2.2 using an electric hand blender, blend the leaves to a puree.

  • STEP 3.3 put the pan back on the heat and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.

  • STEP 4.4 add ½ cup of milk and stir it in well. Allow it to cook for 4 to 5 minutes till it dries up. Set aside the greens.

  • STEP 5.5 in a pressure cooker add ½ cup oil, when it gets hot, add 2 medium onions sliced and saute for 1 minute till the onions turn soft and pink. Add 2 cinnamon (dalchini) sticks, 4 cloves (lavang) 2 cardamom (elaichi), 1 bay leaf and 1 tbsp cumin seeds. Stir for a few seconds till the cumi seeds splutter.

  • STEP 6.6 then add ½ kg boneless beef, cut into 1 inch cubes. Mix well.

  • STEP 7.7 add 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste and fry till the meat changes colour.

  • STEP 8.8 add 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp red chilli powder, ½ tsp turmeric and 1 ½ tbsp qorma masala. Stir well to ensure that the meat is well coated with the masala.

  • STEP 9.9 next add 3 medium tomatoes cubed. Stir together.

  • STEP 10.10 pour in 2 cups of water and pressure cook for 18 to 20 minutes till the meat is tender. Allow the pressure to release naturally.

step 11

  • STEP 11.11 open the cooker and continue to cook on high heat for 6 to 8 minutes till the gravy dries up and the oil separates.

step 12

  • STEP 12.12 add1 tsp crushed black peppercorns, 1 tsp garam masala powder and mix well.

step 13

  • STEP 13.13 add 3 to 4 slit green chillies.

step 14

  • STEP 14.14 at this stage add the cooked palak mixture. Stir it in, to combine well with the gosht and masala.

step 15

  • STEP 15.15 cook for 6 to 8 minutes on low to medium heat.

step 16

  • STEP 16.16 lastly add ¼ cup cream and cook until the oil separates.

step 17

  • STEP 17.17 palak gosht is ready. Serve garnished with sliced green chillies and chopped coriander leaves.
