A Sweet dish with rice and served with jaggery syrup. Pachoru is a traditional Christian delicacy. For Mother Mary’s feast, Pachoru is served in church. This is one of the main offerings at many churches. In Kerala, meanwhile, most churches would give pachoru as an offering to the devotees , after the Church Service. Traditionally, known as pachoru in Malayalam it’s raw rice cooked in coconut milk and served with jaggery syrup.

Ingredients for Pachoru Recipe

  • 0.17 cup Brown Rice
  • 0.08 cup Red cow peas
  • 41.67 gram Jaggery Jaggery
  • As required Coconut
  • 0.67 No.s Crushed cardamom
  • 0.92 glass Water

Directions: Pachoru Recipe

Preparation Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash 1 cup of rice and ½ cup of red cow pea. Drain out water.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In an instant pressure cooker add 1 cup of rice, ½ cup of red cow peas and 5 glasses of water.
  • STEP 2.Cook in a medium flame till 4 whistle blows. In another pan melt 250gms of jaggery with ½ cup of water. Sieve the melted jaggery into another pan.
  • STEP 3.Add to the pressure cooker, melted jaggery, ½ coconut grated and 4 pieces of crushed cardamoms.
  • STEP 4.Cook in a medium flame for 5-10 minutes to get a thick consistency.
