Modak, for the unversed, is a sweet preparation comprising of dumpling-shaped bites. Modak is a famous sweet in the region, believed to have originated in the region of Maharashtra. These modaks are served during Ganesh Chaturthi to Lord Ganesha. Legend has it that these modaks were prepared by Anasuya, who hosted Lord Shiva and Ganesha in the forest. She served only one sweetened ball to Lord Ganesha first, after which he burped loudly. Following this, Lord Shiva burped 21 times and Goddess Parvati became inquisitive. She was told later that it is modak that satisfied both of them and that is how she announced that Lord Ganesha should be offered 21 modaks on Ganpati pooja. Modaks are made with a variety of flavours. From kesar to pista and chocolate, modaks come packed with delicious tastes. Here is a quick and easy recipe to prepare modaks by using your favourite oreo biscuits along with fresh cream and coconut.

  • 2 packets Oreo
  • 2 tablespoon Malai
  • 1 tablespoon grated coconut

Steps To Prepare

  • STEP 1.Take 2 packets of oreos and segregate the cream from the biscuits.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Grind the biscuits in a powder consistency.
  • STEP 2.Take out the powder consistency in a bowl then add the 4 tbsp malai. If needed, you can always add more to it.
  • STEP 3.Make a tight dough on the powder. Now with the cream add 2 tbsp shredded coconut. The coconut helps the cream to bind.
  • STEP 4.Take a modak shaper and place a small ball of the oreo dough.
  • STEP 5.Keep pressing until the dough takes the modak shape. Then, with the help of your finger, make a hole in the middle.
  • STEP 6.Add a small layer of the cream and layer the end by taking a little more dough.
  • STEP 7.Now open the shaper and your oreo modak is ready.

Storage And Serving Method

  • STEP 1.Add a little condensed milk or malai at the top of the modak for decorating.
