Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Rinse and soak a mixture of lentils (such as red lentils, yellow lentils, and split peas) for a few hours.
  • STEP 2.In a large pot, heat oil and add cumin seeds, chopped onions, and minced garlic. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
  • STEP 3.Add the soaked lentils, chopped vegetables (such as carrots, potatoes, and spinach), and spices (such as turmeric, cumin powder, and chili powder). Stir well.
  • STEP 4.Pour in enough water to cover the lentils and vegetables. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the lentils and vegetables are cooked and tender.
  • STEP 5.Season with salt and garnish with fresh cilantro. Serve hot with rice or bread.
