Literally translated from Malay, nasi minyak means oil rice. It is probably named after one of the main ingredients, clarified butter which is also known as ghee. It gives off a wonderful aroma which can be detected miles away. Ingredients for Nasi Minyak Recipe

  • 1 Nos yellow onion
  • 3 Nos shallots
  • 2 Nos garlic cloves
  • 1 stalk Lemongrass
  • 2 cm ginger
  • 2 tablespoon ghee
  • 1/2 tablespoon margarine
  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1 stick Nos cinnamon
  • 2 Nos cloves
  • 2 Nosgreen cardamom
  • 1 Nos pandan leaf
  • 100 milliliter evaporated milk
  • 300 milliliter Water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 2 Nos coriander

How to Make Nasi Minyak Recipe

STEP 01

Slice onions and shallots

STEP 02

Mince garlic and ginger

STEP 03

Bruise the bottom part of lemongrass

STEP 04

Wash rice and drain the water out

heat ghee & margarine in a rice pot at medium flame

STEP 01

then add lemongrass,shallots,onions,garlic,ginger and saute it.

add star anise,clove,cardamom pods, cinnamon and stir until fragrant

add a knotted pandan into the pot and saute for 30 secs and then add rice.

now add evaporated milk,water,a pinch of salt in the pot.

once it starts boiling,cover it and cook for 15 mins at low flame.

turn off the gas and mix 2 tbsp water and turmeric powder thoroughly into the cooked rice

STEP 01

lastly,garnish it with fresh coriander leaves,cover and let it rest for 10 mins.
