  • 1/4 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 Bay Leaf
  • 1 Dry Red Chilies

  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 tablespoon Ghee

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the chana dal for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, heat oil and add cumin seeds, bay leaf, and dry red chili.
  • STEP 3.Add grated coconut, ginger paste, and turmeric powder. Saute for a minute.
  • STEP 4.Add the soaked chana dal, salt, and water. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
  • STEP 5.Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and give it a stir.
  • STEP 6.Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds, dry red chili, and grated coconut. Fry until golden brown.
  • STEP 7.Pour this tempering over the cooked dal and mix well.
  • STEP 8.Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.

  • Soaking the chana dal helps in reducing the cooking time.
  • You can adjust the consistency of the dal by adding more or less water.
