Thailand is full of spicy chili sauces and pastes. One of the most popular is Nam Prik. While each region has its own version of this sauce, Nam Prik Kapi is the most widely used one. It is made with fermented shrimp sauce, pounded chilies, lime juice, and a few Thai herbs and seasonings.

Ingredients for Nam Prik Kaphi Recipe

  • 2 tablespoon shrimp paste
  • 6-7 garlic cloves
  • 30-40 Thai small red chilies
  • 2 Thai shallots
  • 810 Pea eggplant
  • 1/2 tablespoon palm sugar
  • 2 Lime

Directions: Nam Prik Kaphi Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Roast the shrimp paste from both sides in the charcoal for a smoky flavor. Peel off the garlic skin, shallot skin, and remove the stem of the thai small red chilies.

  • STEP 1.Take a mortar & pestle and pound the ingredients (be careful with your eyes), make a roughly smooth paste of them. Take the paste out in a bowl.

  • STEP 1.Again in the mortar & pestle add the pea eggplant, and pound them slightly. Add the roasted shrimp paste, add the shallot-garlic paste, ½ tbsp palm sugar and give it a good pound and mix well.

  • STEP 1.Add 2 lime juice and mix. Give it a taste and adjust the seasoning and flavor according to your need.

  • STEP 1.Top it with some sliced chilies and pea eggplant. Serve it with some roasted fish, sticky rice, and boiled vegetables.
