Kerala Chammanthi Podi is familiar for all Malayalees. Nadan Chammanthi Podi, Idi Chammanthi, Kerala Chammanthi Podi, Roasted Coconut Chutney Powder. In a heavy bottomed wide deep pan, add in the grated coconut, shallots, pepper corns, ginger, garlic and curry leaves. Fry until the mixture turns dark golden brown in color, by stirring continuously in a medium flame.

Ingredients for Nadan Chammanthi Podi Recipe

  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut
  • 0.17 tablespoon Urad dal
  • 0.17 tablespoon Black pepper powder
  • 0.17 tablespoon Red chilly powder
  • As required Salt
  • 1 No.s Shallots
  • 0.33 No.s Ginger
  • 1.67 No.s Dry red chilli
  • As required Tamarind lemon size
  • 0.17 Curry leaves stem

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Dry roast 3 cups of grated coconut in a pan with 2 piece ginger, 6 shallots, 10 dry red chillies, 1 stem of curry leaves and a small piece tamarind.
  • STEP 2.Stir fry continuously. Now add 1 tbsp urad dal and a pinch of salt. Roast in a medium-low flame for 2-3 minute. Add 1 tbsp of pepper powder and chili powder. Stir continuously for another minute.
  • STEP 3.Turn off the flame and grind all the ingredients in a blender to obtain a grainy powder.
