Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • STEP 2.Place the red peppers on the baking sheet and roast them in the oven for about 30 minutes, or until the skins are charred and blistered.
  • STEP 3.Remove the peppers from the oven and let them cool. Once cooled, peel off the skins and remove the seeds.
  • STEP 4.In a food processor, combine the roasted red peppers, walnuts, breadcrumbs, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, cumin, paprika, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  • STEP 5.Transfer the muhammara to a serving bowl and garnish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of chopped walnuts.
  • STEP 6.Serve the muhammara with bread, crackers, or vegetables for dipping.

Cooking Tips

  • You can use jarred roasted red peppers if you don't want to roast them yourself.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a chopped chili pepper.
  • Store leftover muhammara in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
