No Indian festivals are completed without any Chat and Dahi vada is the most popular chat in India. Moong dal dahi vada is a light and delicious Indian chat made with yellow lentil. Vadas are deep fried, soaked in warm salty water and then served with beaten curd, green chutney, and sweet tamarind chutney with few spices sprinkled over them.

Ingredients for Moong Dal Dahi Vada Recipe

  • 1/5 cup Moong Dal/Yellow Lentils
  • As Required Oil
  • 0.80 cups Lukewarm water
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/10 cup 1 and 1/2 cup Yog
  • 1/5 tsp Sugar
  • 1/5 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 0.40 tsp Roasted cumin powder
  • 0.40 tsp Chaat masala
  • 1/20 cup Sweet tamarind chutney
  • 1/5 tbsp Green chutney (Hari chutney)
  • 1/5 tbsp Tomato sauce

Directions: Moong Dal Dahi Vada Recipe

  • STEP 1.Rinse and soak moong dal in water for 6 hours or overnight.

  • STEP 2.Drain and discard all water from dal and grind it into a fine paste.

  • STEP 3.Transfer it to a large bowl and beat the batter until it turns light, about 4-5 minutes.

  • STEP 4.Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium flame.

  • STEP 5.When oil is medium hot, take a medium lemon sized portion of batter in between your fingers or a spoon and gently drop it into the oil.

  • STEP 6.Drop 4-5 portions at a time.

  • STEP 7.Deep-fry them on medium heat until light golden brown and crispy.

  • STEP 8.Take them out from oil and transfer into tissue paper to soak extra oil.

  • STEP 9.Heat water in a big utensil and add salt.

  • STEP 10.Soak vadas in this water for about 30-40 minutes.

  • STEP 11.Takeout them out from water and press gently between your palms and remove excess water.

  • STEP 12.Transfer them to a serving plate.

  • STEP 13.Beat curd with sugar and salt from hand beater until smooth.

  • STEP 14.Pour generous amount of curd evenly over vadas until they fully covered.

  • STEP 15.Top it with sweet Tamarind chutney, tomato sauce and green chutney.

  • STEP 16.Sprinkle red chilli powder, roasted cumin powder and chaat masala powder.
