Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Clean and chop the banana flower, removing the outer layers and the stamen.
  • STEP 2.Soak the moong dal for 30 minutes and then drain the water.
  • STEP 3.In a pressure cooker, add the moong dal, chopped banana flower, turmeric powder, salt, and water. Cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dal is soft.
  • STEP 4.In a pan, heat mustard oil and add cumin seeds, dry red chilies, and bay leaf. Fry until the spices release their aroma.
  • STEP 5.Add the cooked dal and banana flower mixture to the pan and mix well. Cook for a few minutes until the flavors blend together.
  • STEP 6.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
