Labra is specially made during any occasion. It is a dish filled with 5 different vegetables but tastes amazing. traditional vegetarian breakfast curry, labra is made in both Bangladesh and Calcutta. It is a delightful mix of vegetables cooked together with spices. This can be cooked during the auspicious Durga Puja and also on Bengali New Year.

Ingredients for Mixed Veggies (Labra) Recipe

  • As required Cooking Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon Roasted cumin powder
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin paste
  • 2 Chopped Onions
  • 5-6 green chili
  • As required Salt
  • 4 Potatoes
  • 200 gram green peas
  • 3 Carrot
  • 1 Cabbage
  • 200 gram Beans
  • 5 mixed spices
  • 2 bay leaves
  • As required Dry red chili

Directions: Mixed Veggies (labra) Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Peel off the skin from the potatoes and dice them, slice the green chilies from the middle.

step 2

  • STEP 2.Chop the onions, beans, carrot, and cabbage.

step 3

  • STEP 3.Grate the ginger around 2tbsp.

step 4

  • STEP 4.Remove the green peas from their pod.

step 5

  • STEP 5.Make a paste of green chili, garlic, and cumin seed ( all about 2tbsp).

  • STEP 6.Take a kadai to add 2 cups of water and add the veggies-(potato, peas, carrots, beans, and cabbage).

  • STEP 7.Add the garlic paste, green chili paste, and cumin paste (each 2tbsp). Mix them well with the veggies.

  • STEP 8.Add 1tsp turmeric and 1tsp salt. Cover it for 10mins and let it cook.

  • STEP 9.Once they are cooked and water dries up. Now take another kadai to pour 7-8tbsp oil,

step 10

  • STEP 10.Heat the oil and add 2 bay leaf, dry red chili and 5 mixed spices, saute them and let the aroma infuse.

  • STEP 11.Add the onions and fry them till translucent, now add 2 tbsp grated ginger and saute them well.

  • STEP 12.Now add the cooked veggies and mix all of them well. Add ½ cup water if needed.

  • STEP 13.Now add the 1 ½ tbsp roasted cumin powder and 1tbsp sugar(optional) and mix it well with the veggies.

  • STEP 14.Cover it and cook it for more than 5 mins.

  • STEP 15.Serve it with steamed rice.
