  • 125 gram Fish Fillets, Cut Into Pieces
  • 1/4 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • as needed A Few Curry Leaves
  • 1/4 Onion, Chopped
  • 1 cloves Cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 1/2 Green Chilies, Slit
  • 1/2 Tomatoes, Chopped
  • 1/4 tablespoon Tamarind Pulp
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1/4 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Chili Flakes
  • as required Fresh Coriander Leaves For Garnish

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves.
  • STEP 2.Add chopped onions, garlic, and green chilies. Saute until onions turn translucent.
  • STEP 3.Add chopped tomatoes, tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
  • STEP 4.Add water and bring the mixture to a boil. Add the fish pieces and simmer until cooked.
  • STEP 5.In a separate pan, heat ghee and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and red chilies for tempering.
  • STEP 6.Pour the tempering over the fish rasam and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  • STEP 7.Serve hot with steamed rice or as a soup on its own.

Cooking Tips

  • Use any firm white fish for this recipe.
  • Adjust the spiciness and tanginess of the rasam according to your taste.
  • You can add a pinch of asafoetida (hing) for extra flavor.
