From its sambal to satay and the wholesome nasi goreng, Indonesian food never fails to strike a chord in every Asian food lover’s heart. And one such Indonesian dish is Mee Goreng. Basically a noodle-based dish, Mee Goreng is all things filling and wholesome. The noodles are tossed with vegetables, chicken, prawns and a variety of sweet and savoury sauces. The dish also has a tangy flavour note from the use of tamarind. Having originated in the 1970s by a restaurant owner named Nunuk Nuraini, Mee Goreng has remained the flavourite of most Indonesian food lovers. Etymologically, the dish means ‘fried noodles’ and the dish is all things flavourful and wholesome. If you want to whip up a noodle dinner, then Mee Goreng is what we suggest you to try.

Ingredients for Mee Goreng Recipe

  • 50 gram Peanuts
  • 15 gram chili peppers dried
  • 10 gram Shrimps
  • 5 tablespoon 1⁄2 oil
  • 10 gram chana dal
  • 1 tablespoon 2 tamarind paste
  • 750 milliliter Water
  • 250 gram Potatoes
  • 2 Nos red onions
  • 4 Nos garlic cloves
  • 30 gram white cabbage
  • 30 gram choi sam/chinese flowering cabbage
  • 1 Nos tofu firm and deep fried
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 4 Nos yellow noodles
  • 1 Nos egg

Steps To Prepare

  • STEP 1.Peel potatoes and cut them into pieces and then boil.
  • STEP 2.Slice onions and fried tofu.
  • STEP 3.Cut cabbage and Chinese flowering cabbage.
  • STEP 4.Prepare prawn fritters and cut them.
  • STEP 5.Boil noodles and keep them aside.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Heat oil in a pan at medium heat, add dried pepper chilies, dried shrimps, dal and saute it.
  • STEP 2.Turn off the flame and keep them aside.
  • STEP 3.Now grind the fried ingredients with tamarind paste and some water into a paste.
  • STEP 4.Saute the ground ingredients in oil heated at low flame.
  • STEP 5.Heat oil in a pan and add garlic, onion paste and saute until fragrant, add prawns (optional).
  • STEP 6.Add ¼ tofu, boiled potatoes, cabbage, Chinese flowering cabbage, prawn fritters and saute it for 30 secs.
  • STEP 7.Add noodles, 3 tbsp of the dark soy sauce mixture, mix and cook for a minute.
  • STEP 8.Add an egg and stir it.
  • STEP 9.Now garnish with slice of lime and slices of green chillies.
