Medu vada is a South Indian breakfast fritter made with urad dal, spices and curry leaves. Medu means soft whereas vada refers to round fritters.

Ingredients for Medu Vada Recipe

  • 1 cup urad dal
  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon jeera/ cumin seeds
  • 15 No.s black pepper cones
  • 2 No.s chopped green chillies
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger
  • 2 tablespoon chopped coconut
  • 1 small chopped onion
  • 10 No.s chopped curry leaves
  • As required Coriander leaves
  • As required Rice flour

Directions: Medu Vada Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the urad dal for 6 hours. Blend it with a very little water to make a thick paste.

step 2

  • STEP 1.In a pan take some oil, cumin seeds, ginger, coconut, onions, and curry leaves. Saute all the ingredients for 2-3 min.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Add coriander leaves and add this cooked mixture to the batter and put some salt. Mix it well for 5-6 min and add some rice flour

step 4

  • STEP 1.Take a bowl and wrap it with a damp cheesecloth. Put a small amount of batter on the cloth and make a hole in the center.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Deep fry the vada from both the sides until it turns brown and crispy.
