Directions: Mathri Chaat (savoury Snack) Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, semolina, carom seeds, salt, and ghee. Mix well to form a crumbly texture.
  • STEP 2.Gradually add water and knead the mixture into a firm dough. Cover and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  • STEP 3.Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into flat discs. Prick the discs with a fork to prevent them from puffing up while frying.
  • STEP 4.Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the mathris until golden brown and crispy. Drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • STEP 5.To assemble the chaat, place the mathris on a serving plate. Top them with chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, and coriander leaves.
  • STEP 6.Drizzle sweet tamarind chutney, spicy green chutney, and yogurt over the mathris.
  • STEP 7.Sprinkle chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, and red chili powder for added flavor.
  • STEP 8.Garnish with sev (crispy chickpea flour noodles) and pomegranate seeds.
  • STEP 9.Serve Mathri Chaat immediately and enjoy the burst of flavors and textures.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure the mathris are rolled evenly to ensure even frying.
  • You can adjust the spice level by adding more or less green chutney and red chili powder.
  • Feel free to add your favorite toppings like grated cheese or chopped mint leaves for extra flavor.
  • To make the mathris healthier, you can bake them instead of frying. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Storage and Serving

  • Mathri Chaat is best served immediately after assembling to maintain the crispiness of the mathris.
  • If you have leftover mathris, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
  • You can also make the mathris in advance and store them in an airtight container. Just assemble the chaat when ready to serve.
