Mate De Coca Recipe

Recipe By Slurrp

Coca tea, also called mate de coca, is an herbal tea (infusion) made using the raw or dried leaves of the coca plant. Mate de coca is a very popular tisane in Peru where it is consumed as a digestive tea and even to treat altitude sickness. Traditionally, the drink is served with the whole leaves loosely in hot water without teabags. You then either remove the leaves or continue to drink through them. Coca leaves contain alkaloids, which are naturally occurring psychoactive compounds that temporarily boost the body and mind when mixed with hot water.
