It is a dish widely famous in UP for its impeccable taste. Its healthy and easy to make.Matar ka nimona is a green peas curry made commonly during winter in Uttar Pradesh. This matar recipe does have a strange name but it tastes good when made with fresh, sweet peas that one gets in winter.

Ingredients for Matar Nimona Recipe

  • 3 Green chilies
  • 1 cup Green Peas
  • 2 Potatoes
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 4 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1/2 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • As required Salt
  • 4 tablespoon Cooking Oil

Directions: Matar Nimona Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Segregate the peas from the pods.

  • STEP 2.Peel the potatoes and dice them. Chop the onion and tomatoes and crush and chop the garlic cloves.

step 3

  • STEP 3.Take a kadai to add 2tbsp cooking oil, then add 3 green chilies and one cup of peas.

step 4

  • STEP 4.Saute them now and then until the peas get soft and cooked.

  • STEP 5.Take it out on a plate and let it cool for about 30 mins.

  • STEP 6.Meanwhile, in the same kadai add 2 tbsp oil and add the diced potatoes and fry them until golden brown. Take it out in a plate

  • STEP 7.Once the peas are cold we can now add it to a grinder and make a paste out of it ( no need to make a smooth paste, a little pea would be just fine).

  • STEP 8.Now in the same kadai add a little oil to heat and add the 1tsp cumin seeds, 2 bay leaves, and the roughly chopped garlic, saute them and let the aroma infuse.

  • STEP 9.Once the garlic is slightly cooked now we can add the chopped onions, let it cook, and then tomatoes, give them a good mix and keep stirring them.

  • STEP 10.Cook the tomatoes for about 4-5 mins on medium flame.

  • STEP 11.Now it time to add the spices- ½ tsp turmeric powder, ½ tsp garam masala powder, and ½ tsp coriander powder. Give it a good mix.

  • STEP 12.Add the blended green pea paste and mix it well with the masala, fry them for a minute or so.

  • STEP 13.Add 1.5 cups of water mixing with the extracts left in the blender and mix it with masala in the kadai.

  • STEP 14.Then add more 1 cup water and salt to taste mix it thoroughly, lastly add the fried potatoes give it a good mix.

  • STEP 15.Then on low flame cover it with a lid and cook it for about 8-10 mins.

  • STEP 16.Remove the lid and mix it well before serving.

step 17

  • STEP 17.Your matar nimona is ready, serve it with rice or paratha.
