Okra/Bhindi commonly known as lady's finger is flowering plant in the mallow family. The geographical origin of okra is disputed but in present okra is mainly grown in India, Nigeria, Sudan, Pakistan, Ghana,Egypt, Benin, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Cameroon. This green vegetable is long finger like which has stickiness inside. Okra pods are long, slender and elegantly shaped, just like lady's finger, hence the name lady's finger. Okra is good source of minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and fiber. It is good for digestion as it has high fiber. It is also protects the liver against free radical damage due to it's antioxidant property.

Ingredients for Masala okra Recipe

  • 125 Grams bhindi
  • 0.13 Cup besan
  • 1.50 Tbsp coarse grinded peanuts
  • 1/2 Tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 Tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 Tbsp coriander cumin powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 Pieces lemon
  • A Pinch Pinch of asafoetida
  • To Taste Salt
  • 1.50 Tbsp oil
  • As Required Fine chopped coriander

Directions: Masala Okra Recipe

  • STEP 1.1. Wash and dry okra,, then trim its head and tail. Cut it into 1" pieces and give cut vertically.
  • STEP 2.2. Dry roast gram flour till aroma comes. Add ground peanuts and rest of spices in gram flour. Mix well and keep aside.
  • STEP 3.3. Heat oil and add bhindi. Let it cook on slow flame till they near to cook. Stir occasionally.
  • STEP 4.4. Then add prepared masala and mix very lightly.
  • STEP 5.5. Let it cook for few minutes on a slow flame so masala cooked very well. Add coriander, turn off the heat.
  • STEP 6.6. Serve hot with roti and meals.
