A traditional snack from Kerala, Masala Kappalandi are crunchy and spicy peanuts. They are a good accompaniment to a cup of chai and may be eaten on their own or used as an ingredient in other recipes. They are quick and easy to make and can be served as a starter with drinks. Bars usually serve these peanuts as chakna, which refers to nibbles enjoyed with alcoholic drinks.

Ingredients for Masala Kappalandi Recipe

  • 1/4 Cups Peanuts
  • 1/4 Cups Gram flour
  • 0.13 cup Rice flour
  • 0.13 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 0.13 teaspoon Fennel seeds
  • 0.38 Tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
  • 1/4 Tbsp Chopped curry leaves
  • 0.06 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 0.13 pinch Salt
  • 0.13 cup Water

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a bowl, mix all the ingredients together. Set a frying pan on the stove on medium heat with cooking oil.
  • STEP 2.Once the oil is hot, drop peanuts covered with masala one by one into it. Stir fry until golden-brown in colour.
