A tangy rasam made from cooked raw mango pulp boiled with toor dal. The Manga Rasam Recipe is a delicious tangy rasam made from Raw Mangoes and combined along with fresh spice powders and coriander leaves. It makes a great side dish along with hot steamed rice and poriyal. It is a popular South Indian dish that is made in almost every household which is also called Mavinakayi saaru in Kannada or mangai rasam in Tamil.

Ingredients for Mango Rasam Recipe

  • 1 No.s Raw mango
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 1 sprig Curry leaf torn roughly
  • 2 Green chillies slit
  • 1 Tomato Diced
  • 1 Juice from lemon
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1.50 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 2 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Toor dal cooked
  • 1 tablespoon Jaggery
  • As required Salt
  • As required Coriander leaves for garnish

Directions: Mango Rasam Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Cook ¼ cup toor dal till soft.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Put 1 raw mango into a pressure cooker add ½ cup water and pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles and release the pressure naturally.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Remove the skin of the mango and extract the pulp.

  • STEP 1.Put it in a grinder jar, add 1/2 cup water and blend to a smooth paste.

  • STEP 1.In a preheated pan add 1 tbsp ghee, ½ tsp mustard, 1 tsp cumin and stir till it crackles. Then add ¼ tsp asafoetida, 1 sprig curry leaf torn roughly and 2 slit green chillies. Stir for a few seconds.

  • STEP 1.Add the cooked blended mango, 1 tomato diced, juice from 1 lemon, 1 tsp turmeric powder, ½ tsp pepper powder, ½ tsp cumin powder, 1 ½ tsp coriander powder, 2 cups water and ¼ cup cooked toor dal.

step 7

  • STEP 1.Add salt to taste, 1tbsp jaggery and stir well to combine and bring the rasam to a brisk boil.

step 8

  • STEP 1.Boil for 10 minutes till a froth forms around the edges. Turn off the heat and add chopped coriander leaves.
