Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the split black lentils for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, add the lentils, water, salt, and turmeric powder. Cook for 4-5 whistles or until the lentils are soft.
  • STEP 3.In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, chopped onions, and garlic. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  • STEP 4.Add chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the spices are well combined.
  • STEP 5.Add the cooked lentils to the tomato-onion mixture and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • STEP 6.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
