  • 1/2 Medium Sized Bottle Gourd, Peeled And Grated
  • 1/4 cup Gram Flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Peel and grate the bottle gourd. Squeeze out the excess water from the grated bottle gourd.
  • STEP 2.In a mixing bowl, combine the grated bottle gourd, gram flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt, and chopped coriander leaves.
  • STEP 3.Mix well to form a thick mixture. Shape the mixture into small round koftas.
  • STEP 4.Heat oil in a deep pan and deep-fry the koftas until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • STEP 5.In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Once the seeds crackle, add finely chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 6.Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then add tomato puree, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt.
  • STEP 7.Cook the gravy until the oil separates from the masala. Add water to adjust the consistency of the gravy.
  • STEP 8.Add the fried koftas to the gravy and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  • STEP 9.Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to squeeze out the excess water from the grated bottle gourd to prevent the koftas from becoming soggy.
  • You can add grated paneer or mashed potatoes to the kofta mixture for added flavor and texture.
  • For a healthier version, you can also bake the koftas instead of deep-frying them.

Storage and Serving

  • Lauki kofta can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat the koftas in a microwave or on a stovetop before serving.
