Ingredients for Lauki Dal Recipe

  • 1/2 cup Split Yellow Lentils
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 inch Ginger, Grated
  • 2 cloves Cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 1/2 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1 Tomatoes, Pureed
  • 1/2 Bottle Gourd, Peeled And Chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the split yellow lentils (moong dal) for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, ginger, and garlic. Saute until fragrant.
  • STEP 3.Add onions and cook until golden brown. Add tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  • STEP 4.Add the soaked lentils, bottle gourd, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  • STEP 5.Add water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils and bottle gourd are cooked.
  • STEP 6.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.

Cooking Tips

  • You can add other vegetables like carrots or spinach to enhance the nutritional value.
  • For a thicker consistency, you can mash some of the lentils and bottle gourd.
  • Add a squeeze of lemon juice before serving for a tangy flavor.
