Did you know that the much revered drink, lassi, is an ancient concoction that is dated somewhere around 1000 B.C.? The creamy and frothy drink is made from yoghurt and is also considered to be one of the first Indian drinks that has no foreign influences. While you may be aware of the religious connotation of serving yoghurt and honey to the Lords, this drink was born on the trade route between Punjab and Multan. As far as historical evidences are concerned, the Mesopotamian civilisation used to consume curd somewhere around 5000 B.C. The idea of the drink was to provide a refreshing relief to the people who toiled the day in the sun. The whisked yoghurt was mixed with water and sugar and served chilled. The best part is that lassi can be sweet or salty, depending upon your taste. This delicious drink recipe is prepared from a combination of yogurt, cardamom seeds, milk, ice cubes and dry fruits. It is the best drink you can have in summers.

Ingredients for Lassi Recipe

  • 2 cup Curd/ yogurt
  • 10 No.s Cardamom seeds
  • 2 cup Water/ milk
  • As required a few Ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup mixed Dry fruits

Directions: Lassi Recipe

Steps To Prepare

  • STEP 1.In a mortar, take 8 to 10 cardamom pods and crush them. Remove the husk and crush to a fine powder.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a bowl or pan, take 2 cups chilled yogurt.
  • STEP 2.With a blender or wired whisk just mix the curd till it becomes smooth.
  • STEP 3.Add 10 to 12 tbsp sugar. Then add 2 cups chilled water/ milk.
  • STEP 4.Now churn the madani in the lassi mixture. Or blend it smooth till you see a good frothy layer on top.
  • STEP 5.Now add 1 tsp of crushed cardamom powder and a few saffron strands.
  • STEP 6.Mix again. Add ice cubes. You can also add malai or white butter on the top.

Storage And Serving Method

  • STEP 1.Garnish with cardamom powder or dry fruits and serve cold.
  • STEP 2.You can also store in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.
