  • 1/2 cup Yellow Lentils
  • 1.50 cup Water
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1.50 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 4.50 Ic Cloves, Finely Chopped
  • 1/2 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1 Tomatoes, Finely Chopped
  • 1 Green Chilies, Slit
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • as per your need Fresh Coriander Leaves For Garnish

Directions: Lasan (lahsuun) Dal Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Rinse the lentils thoroughly and soak them for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 4-5 whistles or until the lentils are soft and mushy.
  • STEP 3.In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped garlic and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 4.Add chopped onions and cook until they turn translucent.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, and spices like red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and oil starts to separate.
  • STEP 6.Add the cooked lentils to the pan and mix well. Adjust the consistency by adding water if needed.
  • STEP 7.Simmer the dal for a few minutes to allow the flavors to blend together.
  • STEP 8.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or Indian breads.

  • Soaking the lentils helps in reducing the cooking time.
  • You can adjust the spice level according to your preference by adding more or less chili powder.
  • For a creamier texture, you can blend a portion of the cooked lentils before adding them back to the pan.
