Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak moong dal for 30 minutes. Pressure cook the soaked dal along with diced potatoes until soft.
  • STEP 2.In a separate pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 3.Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  • STEP 4.Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a minute.
  • STEP 5.Add the cooked moong dal and potatoes to the pan. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
  • STEP 6.In a blender, grind grated coconut and cashews into a smooth paste. Add this paste to the pan and mix well.
  • STEP 7.Add water to adjust the consistency of the gravy. Simmer for a few minutes until the kadappa thickens.
  • STEP 8.Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with dosa, idli, or rice.
