Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the kulthi daal in water for 4-5 hours.
  • STEP 2.Drain the water and transfer the soaked daal to a pressure cooker.
  • STEP 3.Add water, turmeric powder, and salt to the pressure cooker and cook for 4-5 whistles or until the daal is soft and cooked.
  • STEP 4.In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste to the pan and sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  • STEP 6.Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  • STEP 7.Add red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala to the pan and mix well.
  • STEP 8.Add the cooked kulthi daal to the pan and mix everything together.
  • STEP 9.Simmer the daal for a few minutes until the flavors blend together.
  • STEP 10.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
