Prepared in the shape of a cashew nut, this forms an essential part of Eid celebrations in Muslim households in this part of the state. This crispy, crunchy snack becomes soft as you break it.   • As required Salt
  • 0.13 cup Sugar
  • 0.33 cup Maida
  • 0.33 tablespoon Melted ghee
  • 0.08 cup Oil

Steps To Prepare

  • STEP 1.Use refined flour for this recipe.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Into a mixer grinder, crack in two eggs.
  • STEP 2.Add a pinch of salt to taste and ¾ cup of sugar. Blend it well in the mixer grinder and set apart the mixture.
  • STEP 3.In another bowl, add 2 cups of maida and 2 tbsp of melted ghee.
  • STEP 4.Pour in the mixture we have kept aside little by little into the bowl.
  • STEP 5.Knead the mixture well to form a soft and smooth dough.
  • STEP 6.Once the dough is ready, divide it into 4 separate balls.
  • STEP 7.From each ball, make a thin sheet using chapathi maker.
  • STEP 8.Now cut out from each sheet beautiful crescent shapes using a cookie cutter.
  • STEP 9.Set onto a stove, a deep fry pan with ½ cup oil on medium flame. Gently add the cut out shapes and saute it till it is golden brown colour. Tasty kottayappam is ready to be served.

Pro Tip

  • STEP 1.Instead of chapathi maker, you can make use of a rolling pin and board.

Storage And Serving Method

  • STEP 1.Serve with hot tea or coffee. Store in an air-tight container.
