Kerala style side-dish prepared with chinese potato. Koorka is also called Shemma/Chivakizhnagu and Chinese Potato in English. This popular tubar is a seasonal veggie available only for about 3 months during the winter in Kerala.These tubers are round, dark brown or black and aromatic.

Ingredients for Koorka Mezhukupuratti Recipe

  • 2 cup Chopped chinese potato
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chilly powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • As required Salt
  • 1/2 No.s Onion
  • 2 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 2 No.s Dry red chilly

Directions: Koorka Mezhukupuratti Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Soak chinese potato in water for 4 hours.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Peel off the skin and drain out water.

step 3

  • STEP 1.In a pan take 2 cup peeled and chopped chinese potato, ½ cup water, ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chilli powder,1 tsp coriander powder and 1 tsp garam masala.

  • STEP 1.Cook covered for 10 minutes on medium flame. Stir in between.

  • STEP 1.Add a pinch of salt and a few curry leaves. Mix the ingredients together.

  • STEP 1.Set another pan on the stove with cooking oil. Add ½ tsp of mustard seeds and when it splutters add in ½ chopped onion, 2 dry red chilly and a few curry leaves.

  • STEP 1.Transfer the sauteed ingredients to chinese potato and mix well.

step 8

  • STEP 1.Cook for a minute or two and turn off the flame.
