Kerala Sambar Recipe

Each state in south has its version of sambar. You can make sambar with or without coconut. This delicious sambar comes from malabar region with coconut and flavoured with coconut oil. Do not substitute coconut oil for any other oil.

  • cup Toor Daal one third
  • As required Lemon sized tamarind ball
  • 1/2 cup cubed Vegetable
  • 1-1.25 piece Drumstick cut lengthwise
  • 1/4 chopped tomato
  • 1/4 green chillies slit
  • 0.13 teaspoon 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • As required Salt
  • 3/4 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves

  • 1/2 teaspoon urad dal

  • 1 shallots or 1/2 onion chopped
  • 1/2 sprig curry leaves
  • As required For Seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil
  • 0.06 teaspoon hing
  • 1/4 sprig curry leaves

  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
