Kazunoko Recipe

Recipe By Slurrp

A japansese recipe of salted herring roe that has been marinated in seasoned Dashi. Kazunoko, a lump of fish roe, symbolizes many children and prosperous family. A piece of the roe is a lot of tiny eggs tightly bounded together. It has distinctive cruncy texture when you chew (along with a popping sound) and a salty fishy flavor. azunoko is one of the popular dishes in Osechi Ryori, the Japanese New Year food. It's herring roe that's marinated in dashi soy sauce seasoning. As Kazunoko symbolizes many children and prosperous family, this rare and expensive delicacy is considered an important part of Osechi.
