Katte Ponagali is a Traditional dish majorly consumed in the Southern region of India.Katte Pongali is a traditional Andhra style rice and moong dal recipe that is often served in temples as Prasadam (Prashad). Nothing like a creamy, fragrant, warm bowl of Pongali especially during winters. There is something unique about the blending of earthy lentils with starchy creaminess of rice. Its pure comfort food.

Ingredients for Katte Ponagali Recipe

  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1/2 cup Moong dal
  • 1/4 cup Rice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 sprig Curry leaves
  • 4 cup Water
  • As required Salt
  • As required Inredients for Tempering
  • 3 No.s Black pepper
  • 5 gram Cashew nuts
  • 1 No.s Green chilies
  • 1/2 teaspoon Hing

Directions: Katte Ponagali Recipe

  • STEP 1.In a pan add 1tbsp of ghee and add moong dal and cook for at least 4-5 minutes, after that add ½ cup of rice,1 tsp of cumin seeds, 1tsp of black pepper, 1” of ginger and 1tsp of turmeric powder.
  • STEP 2.Mix everything well, then add curry leaves and 8 cups of water and some salt.
  • STEP 3.Cover the lid and boil the dish until it is thick.
  • STEP 4.For tempering, in a different pan add some ghee and fry cashew nuts, green chilies, black pepper and hing\Asafoetida for about a minute and keep aside.
  • STEP 5.Serve the dish in a bowl and add the tempering over it, enjoy your katte ponagali.
