A very popular Kerala delicacy. Kerala Karimeen Pollichathu is a ‘star’ dish very popular in top rated hotels and restaurants. Native to Allepey, this Kuttanadan fish preparation is unique and interesting. Cleaned Pearl spot fish or Karimeen is marinated with a blend of rich spicy masala and baked in a banana leaf. A favorite delicacy in Kerala cuisine, Kerala Karimeen Pollichathu always makes you crave for more.

Ingredients for Karimeen Pollichathu Recipe

  • 1 Karimeen big
  • 2 teaspoon Chilly Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 2 teaspoon Pepper Powder
  • 3 teaspoon Curry leaves
  • 1 No.s Lemon
  • 1 Chopped garlic bulb
  • 3 teaspoon Coconut oil
  • 5 teaspoon Coconut milk
  • 3 No.s Onion
  • 50 gram Ginger
  • 3 No.s Tomato
  • 2 No.s Green chilly
  • 2 teaspoon Ginger garlic paste

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Take out a cleaned karimeen. Now marinate the fish with 1 tsp turmeric powder, 2 tsp chilli powder,2 tsp pepper powder, salt, 2 tsp ginger garlic paste and 1 full squeezed lemon water.
  • STEP 2.In a pan, heat some cooking oil and half fry the fish. In another vessel add chopped ginger,chopped garlic, 3 chopped tomatoes, 3 chopped onions and 2 chopped green chillies.Saute well.
  • STEP 3.Add 2 stems of plucked curry leaves, a pinch of salt, 1 tsp turmeric powder, 2 tsp of chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder and 1 tsp of pepper powder.
  • STEP 4.Saute well the ingredients. Transfer to this pan half cooked fish. Continue cooking with 1 tsp of coconut oil and 5 tsp of coconut milk. Cook till the gravy is fully absorbed on to the fish.
  • STEP 5.Transfer the fish to a banana leaf and wrap it around with a string. Grill the fish in a pan. Tasty, spicy Karimeen pollichathu is ready.
