Ingredients for Kara Kozhukattai Recipe

  • 1 cup parboiled rice
  • 1 tablespoon gram dal
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 3 Nos red chilli
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 pinch asafoetida powder
  • 2.50 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 3/4 cup Coconut
  • 1 cup Water
  • As required Salt

Directions: Kara Kozhukattai Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak one cup of parboiled rice for 3 hours.

  • STEP 2.Grind the soaked rice after 3 rice along with the water.

  • STEP 3.Now add a little salt,mix and leave it for sometime.

  • STEP 4.Chop red chillies

  • STEP 5.Finely chop curry leaves

  • STEP 6.1.add oil in a pan & heat it.

  • STEP 7.2.add mustard seeds and let it splutter.

  • STEP 8.3.add cumin seeds,gram dal and urad dal.

  • STEP 9.4.now add chopped red chillies & curry leaves.

  • STEP 10.5.saute it well & then add asafoetida powder.

  • STEP 11.6.add grated coconut and saute for a few seconds and then add the rice batter.

  • STEP 12.7.stir continuously until it becomes thick(solid)

  • STEP 13.8.while the dough is warm,dip your hands in cold water and take a lemon size amount of dough.

  • STEP 14.9,now press the dough into a dumpling shape and place it all on the steamer plate.

  • STEP 15.10.boil water in a steamer and steam the dumplings for 15 mins at medium flame.

step 17

  • STEP 16.11.serve hot with tomato/coconut chutney
