 This is an easy nutritious and quickly prepared dish prepared from chinese water stems consisting of dried shrimps and shrimps paste.This recipe is a spicy Malaysian water spinach stir fry with chilies and shrimp paste. It is delicious and full of umami flavor.This is a a very popular and well-loved veggie dish in Malaysia.

Ingredients for Kangkung Belacan Recipe

  • 400 gram chinese water spinach
  • 8 Nos dried chilli peppers
  • 1 Nos shallot
  • 3 Nos garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon dried shrimps
  • 1 teaspoon dried shrimp paste
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 4 tablespoon Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Directions: Kangkung Belacan Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Cut and discard the stem of chinese water spinach

step 2

  • STEP 2.Then cut the chinese water spinach into 6 cm lengthwise,keep and rinse the stem and leaves separately,

step 3

  • STEP 3.Soak dried shrimps and dried chillies in water separately for 10 mins.

step 4

  • STEP 4.Dry toast shrimp paste at medium flame and turn it off once it begins to smoke

step 5

  • STEP 5.Now grind the dried shrimps,dried chillies and garlic cloves into a paste

step 6

  • STEP 6.Mix the shrimp pate and dried chillies ground paste together.

step 7

  • STEP 7.1.add oil in a pan & heat it at medium flame

step 8

  • STEP 8.2.then add the mixture of paste and saute it until oil separates

step 9

  • STEP 9.3.turn the gas at high flame and add chinese water spinach stems and water

step 10

  • STEP 10.4.after the gravy starts boiling add the leaves of chinese water spinach and continue stirring until they are cooked

step 11

  • STEP 11.5.lastly,add salt as per taste and serve.
