Jaisalmeri Chane (instant Pot) is a black chickpeas curry in curd based gravy. This is a traditional dish from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. It is also referred to as Kala Chana Kadhi. This easy Indian Instant Pot Chana recipe is a simple, delicious and very easy to prepare vegetarian side dish.

Ingredients for Jaisalmeri Chane Recipe

  • 1/4 cup Dried Kala Chana
  • 1/4 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1/4 pinch Hing
  • 0.13 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tablespoon Cumin Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 tablespoon Chili powder
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.13 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 0.38 cup Curd / yogurt
  • 3/4 tablespoon Besan / Chickpea Flour
  • As required Cilantro for garnishing

Directions: Jaisalmeri Chane Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1. wash and drain kala chana and soak them in hot water for 6 hours.

  • STEP 1. drain the water from the chana.

step 3

  • STEP 1. put the chana in a pressure cooker with 4 cups of water.

step 4

  • STEP 1. let it cook for 4-5 whistles and then drain the chana.

step 5

  • STEP 1. preserve the water for later use.

step 6

  • STEP 1.5 in a bowl add curd, chickpea flour, turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin and coriander powder, and garam masala.

step 7

  • STEP 2.6 mix all the ingredients well.

  • STEP 3.7 add salt and prepare the lump-free batter.

step 9

  • STEP 4.8 in a pan, heat ghee. Add cumin seeds and hing. Let cumin seeds crackle.

step 10

  • STEP 5.9 add the prepared curd mixture and preserved water (2 cups). Let it boil for 5 minutes.

step 11

  • STEP 6.10 add boiled chana and stir well. Cook it for 5 to 7 minutes on medium to high heat or until it thickens a little bit.

step 12

  • STEP 7.11 garnish with coriander leaves and jaisalmeri chane is ready.
