  • 1/20 cup Jaggery, Grated
  • 0.45 Es, Pitted And Chopped
  • as required Water, As Needed
  • pinch Pinch Of Cardamom Powder
  • as needed Coconut Chutney Or Sweetened Coconut Milk, For Serving

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Soak rice in water for 4-5 hours and grind it into a smooth batter.
  • STEP 2.Add jaggery and dates to the batter and mix well.
  • STEP 3.Allow the batter to ferment overnight.
  • STEP 4.Heat a non-stick appam pan and pour a ladleful of batter into each cavity.
  • STEP 5.Cover and cook on low heat until the appam turns golden brown and crispy on the edges.
  • STEP 6.Serve hot as a snack or dessert.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure the batter is not too thick or too thin. It should have a pouring consistency.
  • You can add a pinch of cardamom powder for extra flavor.
  • If you don't have an appam pan, you can use a regular non-stick pan and shape the appam like pancakes.

  • Jaggery and dates appam can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days.
