Ingredients for Instant Pot Ribs Recipe

  • 2.50 pound Pork spare ribs
  • bunch Scallions chopped A
  • 5 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1.50 inch Ginger Sliced
  • 5 Whole garlic cloves
  • 1 Star anise Nos
  • 1 Bay leaf Nos
  • 1 stick Cinnamon
  • 1 piece Dry orange peel
  • 3-4 piece Dry red chillies
  • 3 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 0.33 cup Chinese cooking wine
  • 2 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1.50 tablespoon Water

Directions: Instant Pot Ribs Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.1 cut 2 ½ lbs of pork spare rib so that they fit in the instant pot. Keep aside.

step 2

  • STEP 2.1 in the instant pot add 5 tbsp sugar, shake it to spread it out. Shut the pot, select ‘saute’ mode, adjust heat to ‘normal’ , set the timer immediately and check the sugar in 5 minutes.

  • STEP 3.2 even if all the sugar has not caramelised, turn off the instant pot.

  • STEP 4.3 cut a bunch of scallions into halves and add them to the pot.

step 5

  • STEP 5.4 add 1 ½ inch ginger sliced, 5 cloves of whole garlic, 1 star anise, 1 bay leaf, 1 stick cinnamon, 1 piece dry orange peel and 3 to 4 pieces of dry red chilies.

  • STEP 6.5 place the ribs in the pot and add, 3 tbsp soy sauce, ⅓ cup of chinese cooking wine.

step 7

  • STEP 7.6 cover the pot and adjust the knob at ‘sealing’ position. Press the ‘meat stew’ button. Adjust the heat to ‘more’. Set the timer for 25 minutes.

  • STEP 8.7 after 25 minutes, take the ribs out of the pot. Take all the aromatics and spices out of the pot. There will be about 1 cup of liquid in the pot.

  • STEP 9.8 press the ‘saute’ and keep the pot uncovered. Let it boil. Place the ribs that did not get covered by the sauce back into the pot in the boiling liquid.let it boil for 10 minutes. Then take the ribs out of the pot. Check the sauce for seasoning.

  • STEP 10.9 then add cornstarch water (2tbsp cornstarch + 1 ½ tbsp water) and keep stirring till the sauce has thickened. It should reach a glossy syrup texture. Pour it out into a bowl.

step 11

  • STEP 11.10 brush the ribs generously with the sauce. Cut the ribs and serve.

  • STEP 12.11 instant pot pork ribs are ready.
