Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Soak the beans and lentils overnight in water.
  • STEP 2.Drain the soaked beans and lentils and rinse them well.
  • STEP 3.Add the beans and lentils to the Instant Pot along with water, spices, and vegetables.
  • STEP 4.Close the lid of the Instant Pot and set it to high pressure for 20 minutes.
  • STEP 5.Once the cooking time is complete, let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes, then manually release the remaining pressure.
  • STEP 6.Open the lid and check the consistency of the soup. If it is too thick, add more water and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  • STEP 7.Serve the Instant Pot Kwati hot with rice or roti.
  • STEP 8.Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

  • You can customize the spices and vegetables according to your preference.
  • If you don't have an Instant Pot, you can cook Kwati on the stovetop, but it will take longer.
