Directions: Idli Sambar Recipe

  • STEP 1.Instructions:
  • STEP 2.1. Soak rice and dal separately for 4-5 hours.
  • STEP 3.2. Grind rice and dal into smooth batter.
  • STEP 4.3. Add salt, baking soda (if using); mix well.
  • STEP 5.4. Ferment batter overnight (8-10 hours).
  • STEP 6.5. Steam idlis for 15-20 minutes.
  • STEP 7.1. Cook toor dal until tender.
  • STEP 8.2. Heat ghee/oil; add cumin seeds, coriander seeds.
  • STEP 9.3. Add onion, garlic; sauté until softened.
  • STEP 10.4. Add carrot, potato, mixed vegetables; cook until tender.
  • STEP 11.5. Add cooked dal, turmeric, red chili powder, salt; mix well.
  • STEP 12.6. Add tamarind paste, sambar powder; simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • STEP 13.7. Garnish with chopped cilantro (if using).
