Easy and quick china street popular food recipe.One of the classics of Chinese cuisine, hong shao rou is a delicious concoction made with braised pork belly. The meat is boiled and doused in a rich mixture of rice wine, sugar, and light and dark soy sauce. All the ingredients form a sweet and sticky sauce of vibrant red color in which the pork belly is cooked until tender.The dish originates from the Chinese province of Hunan, but nowadays it is traditionally associated with Shanghai. It is famous for being a favorite dish of Mao Tse-tung, the founding father of China, and it is often referred to as Chairman Mao’s red braised pork.

Ingredients for Hung Bah Pork Belly Recipe

  • 680 gram pork belly
  • 1 No.s Garlic
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 3 tablespoon wine
  • 1/4 cup light soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup chinkiang vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 No.s Star anise
  • 2 piece cardamom bark
  • 1 piece Cinnamon
  • 3 No.s bay leaves

step 1

  • STEP 1.1. Separate the garlic from skin and place flat knife over garlic and smack.

step 2

  • STEP 2.Take the pork belly and cut 1 inch wide slices.

step 3

  • STEP 3.Add oil in a wok and stir fry the pork for 2 minutes. Add garlic, sizzle wine, chinkiang vinegar, brown sugar, star anise, cardamom, cinnamon and bay leaves. Cook for 5 minuted.

step 4

  • STEP 4.Cover and cook and do not use water. Make sure you stir timely.

step 5

  • STEP 5.After 45 minutes transfer in a bowl and serve.
