Homemade coconut seviya or idiyappam tossed in spiced and coconut.The Homemade Thengai Sevai Recipe, is a traditional south indian recipe that is made from from freshly ground rice using a traditional sevai maker. 0Sevai also known as savory rice noodles is a tiffin speciality in Tamil Brahmin households. There are many variations to this classic breakfast sevai: lemon sevai, coconut sevai, ell sevai, vella sevai, curd sevai and puli sevai.

Ingredients for Homemade Thangai Seviya/Idiyappam Recipe

  • 2 cup Rice soaked to make idli batter
  • As required Ingredients for thengai seviya
  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Split white urad dal
  • 2 No.s Dry red chillies
  • 2 piece Ginger chopped
  • 2 sprig Curry leaf
  • 1 cup Coconut freshly grated
  • 1/4 cup Roasted peanuts

Directions: Homemade Thangai Seviya/idiyappam Recipe

Preparation Direction

  • STEP 1.Soak 2 cups of rice for a few hours.

Cooking Direction

  • STEP 1.Grease idli moulds and fill molds with rice batter. Place inside the steamer and steam on high heat for 10 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Grease idiyappam maker,add steamed idlis and twist and turn the idiyappam maker handle to make idiyappam.
  • STEP 3.In a hot pan, heat 1 tsp oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp split white urad dal. Saute till the dal turns golden andthe mustard seeds crackle.
  • STEP 4.Add 2 dry red chillies, 2 inch ginger chopped, 2 sprigs curry leaf, 1 cup freshly grated coconut and Saute well for a few seconds.
  • STEP 5.Add the freshly made idiyappam, salt to taste and toss well to combine with all the ingredients.
  • STEP 6.Add ¼ cup roasted peanuts. and Serve hot.
