Homemade Paneer Recipe

Recipe By Slurrp

Homemade cottage cheese (paneer). Making paneer at home is easy, and much cheaper than anything you would buy. It's preservative free and made with natural ingredients. Plus, homemade paneer is fresh, soft, creamy and smooth in texture. The only difference between Paneer & Cottage Cheese is that while Paneer is unsalted, Cottage Cheese is salted and may sometimes have heavy cream in it.

Ingredients for Homemade Paneer Recipe

  • 3 liter Milk
  • 4 tablespoon Lime juice

Directions: Homemade Paneer Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Pour 3 litres of milk into a large cooking pot and bring to a boil.

step 2

  • STEP 1.When it begins to boil add the juice of 3 large lemons or 4 small lemons or 4 tbsp of lemon juice.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Switch off the heat and stir the milk. Allow it to split and curdle.

step 4

  • STEP 1.The whey will separate from the milk solids or ‘chena’. This chena becomes the paneer.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Allow the chena to rest in the whey for upto 10 to 15 minutes.

step 6

  • STEP 1.Then strain it through a muslin cloth spread over a strainer to separate the whey from the paneer.

step 7

  • STEP 1.Shake the cloth to drain all the water. Use a spoon to fold in the chena and extract all the whey.

step 8

  • STEP 1.Do this while the chena is warm and not cooled down.

step 9

  • STEP 1.Bring the corners of the cloth together and squeeze the chena.

step 10

  • STEP 1.Fold the cloth over the chena to make it into a square shape and place it on a plate. Put a weight on top of the chena to press it down.

step 11

  • STEP 1.After about two hours the paneer will be well set and firm.
