Homemade Lemon Idiyappam Recipe

A South Indian dish that uses freshly ground rice to make idiyappam by using a traditional idiyappam maker. This dish can be prepared quickly with a few ingredients and has the zesty taste of lemon and the authentic aroma and flavour of South Indian spices to treat your taste buds. Ingredients for Homemade Lemon Idiyappam Recipe

  • 2 cup Rice washed and soaked
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Split white urad dal
  • 2 inch Ginger chopped
  • 1 No.s Green chillies chopped
  • 2 sprig Curry leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup Roasted peanuts
  • 1 No.s Lemon juice

Directions: Homemade Lemon Idiyappam Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.In a mixer grinder add 2 cups washed and soaked rice. Add a little water and blend to make a smooth thick batter.

  • STEP 1.Grease idli molds and ladle the batter into the molds. Place in the steamer with water.

  • STEP 1.Steam on high heat for 10 minutes. Remove from the molds

  • STEP 1.Grease the inside of the idiyappam maker, place the steamed rice bappet into the machine. Twist and turn the handle to make idiyappam. Break the idiyappam into smaller pieces and keep covered.

  • STEP 1.In a preheated pan, add 1 tbsp oil, 1 tsp mustards, 1 tsp split white urad dal and saute till the crackle anddal turns golden and crisp. Then add 2 inches chopped ginger, 1 chopped green chillies, 2 sprigs of curry leaf, ½ tsp turmeric powder, ¼ cup roasted peanuts.

  • STEP 1.Next add the freshly made idiyappam (sevai), 1 tsp salt, juice of 1 lemon and stir well till all the ingredients in the pan have combined. Turn off the heat.
