A very easy and quick Tamil sweet dish prepared from chana dal, jaggery and poppy seeds Hayagreeva is rich and traditional, classic dessert which is genrally prepared on the occassion of nivedyam as a prasada.

Wash and soak chana dal in water for one hour
Dry roast poppy seeds for 2 mins
Boil jaggery in one cup of water to make a syrup and strain jaggery water to remove impurities.
1.in a pressure cooker add 4 cup of water,chana dal and cook for 5 whistles.
2.drain the water from the pressure cooker and mash the chana dal
3.add ghee in a pan and roast raisins and cashews
4.in a kadai add 1 tbsp ghee,grated coconut and fry for 2 mins
Now add the jaggery syrup into it along with boiled chana dal,fried cashews and raisins.
7.cook for 5 mins at low flame and then turn off the flame and add poppy seeds and cardamom powder
