Khichdi - a healthy dish prepared in combination of rice and split moong dal. Khichdi is not only easy to prepare but it is also easy to digest. Khichdi is considered as Sick people's diet and many people don't like Khichdi. So some changes in it's preparation and adding some more ingredients makes it more yummy as well as healthy. Khichdi can be prepared by various ingredients too. Here I have prepared khichdi with very healthy vegetable bottle gourd/lauki.

Ingredients for Gourd Khichdi ( Lauki Khichdi ) Recipe

  • 0.13 Cup rice
  • 0.13 Cup moong dal
  • 0.13 Cup masoor dal
  • 62.50 Gms rams bottles gourd (peeled and chopped)
  • 1/4 Pieces finely chopped onion
  • 1.25 Pieces finely chopped garlic cloves
  • 0.13 Tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 Tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 Tsp kitchen king masala
  • 0.13 Tsp mustard seeds
  • A Pinch Pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/4 Tbsp ghee
  • 1/4 Tbsp oil
  • To Taste Salt

Directions: Gourd Khichdi ( Lauki Khichdi ) Recipe

  • STEP 1.1. Wash and soak rice and dal.
  • STEP 2.2. Heat oil and ghee in pressure cooker ,add mustard seeds ,once they splutter add asafoetida and onion garlic and saute them for a few minutes.
  • STEP 3.3. Further add chopped gourd, turmeric and red chilli powder and saute it for a couple of minutes.
  • STEP 4.4. Now add soaked rice and dal and water in ratio of 1:3
  • STEP 5.5. Add salt and kitchen king masala, pressure cook it for 3 whistles.
  • STEP 6.6. Serve hot with curd, papad or your choice of condiments.
  • STEP 7.Note:
  • STEP 8.1. Can increase quantity of gourd.
