A sweet snack easy to make recipe filled with the goodness of coconut. Gizzada also referred as pinch-me-round and known as queijada in Portuguese, it is also a famous pastry in Jamaican cuisine The tart is contained in a small crisp pastry shell with a pinched crust and filled with a sweet and spiced coconut filling. It is essentially a mini open faced tart characterised by pinched crust.

Ingredients for Gizzada Recipe

  • As required For Coconut Filling
  • 2.50 cup unsweetened Coconut flakes or shredded fresh coconut
  • 2 cup Water
  • 3/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon rose water
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon mixed spice/all spice
  • 1.75 cup Brown sugar
  • As required For Dough
  • 2 cup all purpose flour/counter flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter/ Margarine
  • 0.33 cup Ice Water

Directions: Gizzada Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.1 - in a bowl take some all purpose flour, butter and salt.

  • STEP 2.2 - knead it into a soft dough by gradually adding cold water to it.

step 3

  • STEP 3.3 - cover it with a plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

step 4

  • STEP 4.4 - cut the dough into 8 equal pieces.

  • STEP 5.5 - roll flat into little circles.

step 6

  • STEP 6.6 - shape the edges by pinching upwards with your finger in order to provide it some depth.

  • STEP 7.7 - peirce some holes on the flattened dough with a fork.

  • STEP 8.8 - place it on a baking tray.

step 9

  • STEP 9.1 - heat some water in a pan and add salt, vanilla extract, rose water, allspice and brown sugar.

  • STEP 10.2 - mix everything together.

step 11

  • STEP 11.3 - now add shredded coconut flakes and mix well.

step 12

  • STEP 12.4 - cook it at medium to low flame for 20-25 minutes.

  • STEP 13.5 - allow the filling to cool and refrigerate.

  • STEP 14.6 - bake your gizzada dough in an oven for 5 minutes at 350 degree f.

  • STEP 15.7 - take them out and brush some milk on the edges.

step 16

  • STEP 16.8 - fill in the coconut mixture and flatten it with your fingers.

step 17

  • STEP 17.9 - bake your gazzida for 8-10 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
